  • Trustee Role:

    Are you committed to equity of outcomes for the Wairarapa community, particularly in the Health sector?

    Hospice Wairarapa are looking to fill multiple Trustee roles. This could be your opportunity to have a significant impact on how specialist palliative care services are delivered right across the Wairarapa region.

    We’re looking for people who are ready for a challenge and can navigate through complex issues and periods of change, with a commitment to equity and inclusion.

    This is a voluntary role.

    Who we are:

    Hospice Wairarapa is a charitable trust. Our role in the community is to provide wrap-around specialist care that supports people who have a life-limiting illness, as well as their whānau and carers. We offer this service in Wairarapa for free.

    Hospice Wairarapa operates two Retail stores (Masterton and Greytown) to fund a significant proportion of their services. Other funds are obtained through a Te Whatu Ora contract and fundraising activities.

    What we need:

    Skills and experience we’re particularly interested in to fill our current vacancies are

    - Tikanga Māori or knowledge of Te Aō Māori

    - Clinical background/health sector experience

    - Understanding of specialist palliative care services

    - Diverse cultural experiences or knowledge

    Commitment required

    - Eleven board meetings per year (every month except January)

    - Additional time outside meetings to read Board and sector documents

    - Optional commitment to committees

    - Occasional representation of Hospice Wairarapa in the community

  • Retail Manager - Masterton Shop

    We're looking for a people and retail/shop management superstar for our Masterton Shop!

    Are you a vibrant, empathetic people leader with excellent process and shop management skills?

    This is an opportunity to be part of the Hospice Wairarapa team and be an important part of helping deliver our services to the community.

Current Volunteer Vacancies

Join our team of amazing volunteers! We have a range of volunteer roles available, from working directly with patients to behind-the-scenes support, helping out in our retail shops or assisting with special projects and fundraising. You can choose to volunteer regularly or on a more flexible basis.

Retail vacancies
Want to join our team of amazing volunteers at Hospice Wairarapa's retail shops? You can pick up an application form at any of our shops, fill or contact us for more information. For more information about our current vacancies, click on the menu.

    • Half-day shifts Monday-Friday sorting donations, predominantly clothing.

    • Saturday 10am-1pm assisting in shop or sorting donations.

    • Van drivers - two mornings a month on Wednesdays and /or Fridays.

    • Saturday half day shift – in shop or sorting donations

    • Assistance with washing clothing/linen

    • Saturday half-day shift monthly or more frequently.

Te Kōwhai vacancies
Looking for a way to make a difference in the Wairarapa community? Check out our current vacancies by clicking on the menu.

  • Our trained team of biographers provide our patients the opportunity to capture their life story for their family and whanau to keep and treasure. Each biography can take around four hours per week over a four to six week period.

  • 2 hours on a Wednesday once a month. Are you a great listener while also able to encourage uplifting conversation in a coffee morning group? 

    If you are empathetic, have the ability to relate to people from all walks of life in a non-judgmental manner and consider confidentiality as second nature we’d love to hear from you.

  • Care companions play a vital role at Hospice Wairarapa, working closely with our clients to provide companionship and respite for caregivers.
